ultramarinus – beyond the sea

DAY 71 (1 OF 5) – PIER, USHUAIA, TIERRA DEL FUEGO, ARGENTINA

We arrived at the pier at 7:30am.  The lighting was great and the sea was in total serenity.  We came for the 8am penguin tour by Pira Tours.  The tour would take us eastwards by road to Estancia Harberton, the ranch of former missionary Thomas Bridges in the late 19th century.  From Harberton, we would hop onto a small boat for Martillo Island where Magellanic Penguins nesting on a hill and the beaches.  We might also find Gentoo penguins and perhaps even King Penguins on the island.
